Floating Solar powers Camp Mackall

In June of 2022 Womack Electric Completed installation of the Big Muddy Lake Floating Solar Field. The first of many, in partnership with D3 Energy and Ameresco, Womack handled installation start to finish. This system included a 1.2 MegaWatt(MW) floating array, 1 MW TESLA Battery Energy Storage System, 8 Inverters, Switchgear, 480V to 14.6KVA transformer and tied into the power grid with an Intelerupter transfer switch. This floating solar array will power Fort Bragg's Camp Mackall. Some may ask, "why on water and not land?" With floating solar the water will keep them cool, which allows for a higher efficiency energy production. It's also much more ecofriendly than land systems. The equivalent megawatt field on land would had taken about seven acres (in the south, traditionally commercial farm land). This array only covers two acres of Big Muddy Lake with plenty of room to grow!
